The European Set Theory Society supports research and networks in set theory and its connections with related areas in mathematics and logic worldwide. For instance, we organise the biennial European Set Theory Conference (ESTC) series, at which the Hausdorff Medal is awarded, support meetings and distribute information about conferences and worldwide hybrid and online activitites in the blog. We further organise other events such as the European Set Theory Colloquia. The European Set Theory Society is affiliated with the European Mathematical Society. Meetings
Set theory
Set theory is the mathematical theory of the infinite. There are numerous connections with areas such as algebra, topology, combinatorics, real and complex analysis, functional analysis, measure theory, category theory, game theory and theoretical computer science. Its origins lie in Georg Cantor's theory of transfinite numbers around 1874 and the axiomatization by Zermelo and others around 1908. Modern set theory began with the introduction of the method of forcing by Cohen in 1963 with the goal of studying the continuum hypothesis. Set theory has witnessed a renaissance in the last decades with the emergence of new research directions. Literature Links
