About
The European Set Theory Society supports research and networks in set theory and its connections with related areas in mathematics and logic worldwide.
For instance, we organise the biennial
European Set Theory Conference (ESTC) series, at which the Hausdorff Medal is awarded,
support meetings and distribute information about conferences and worldwide hybrid and online activitites in the blog.
We further organise other events such as the European Set Theory Colloquia.
The European Set Theory Society is affiliated with the European Mathematical Society.

Set theory
Set theory is the mathematical theory of the infinite. It is connected with
model theory, computability, algebra, combinatorics, graph theory, topology, analysis, measure theory, category theory, game theory, theoretical computer science and philosophy of mathematics.
The origins of set theory lie in Georg Cantor's theory of transfinite numbers (1874) and the axiomatization by
Zermelo et al. (1908).
Modern set theory began with the introduction of the method of forcing by Cohen (1963) and the independence of the continuum
hypothesis.
In the last decades, set theory has witnessed a renaissance as
new research directions emerged.
